U2 is well known for its involvment in both political and world issues. In both their music,
as well as in interviews and such, they have stressed their support for organizations such as
Amnesty International, Greenpeace, Children of Chernobyl, the Drop the Debt organization (Jubilee 2000), and
countless others.
The band has gone to great lengths to lend their aid and support to these organizations, spreading
the word and making noise about the issues being dealt with. All proceeds from their 1992 hit single "One,"
were donated to AIDS research, and it has been performed at several other concerts to raise money for
Drop the Debt and the War Child charity.
Bono has been most active, recently, with Drop the Debt. His work has included meeting with head
politicians, trying to raise awareness and interest in aiding these impoverished countries and
elimating the enormous debts they owe to richer countries. He recently spoke at Harvard's class
day advocating support for Drop the Debt.
