Hey hey folks. I'm sorry about the last entry... last Monday night was not a good night for me. Things are looking much better now, thankfully. My grandpa is much more aware & seems to be recovering as well as can be expected. He's only having a few hallucinations now and then, mostly due to his vision being obscured & he's regained some feeling in his left arm. He was moved to rehab last night & started with a therapist today. So hopefully he'll be out within a couple weeks or so... we'll just have to see how it goes. We'll have to find out how he'll be when he gets home as well - whether or not my grandma will need in house care for him. Mom & Aunt Tina are still in Michigan; Mom will probably be there for another week or so, but Tina will be coming home sooner as she's got the kids at home to worry about. Many many thanks to all of you who left kind messages of support. It is truly appreciated. I read some of the comments to Mom over the phone and she was very touched. So gracias to Zinna, Kacie, Jenah, Becca, Janet, Thomas, Jaina, Tlace, Kristina, Kelly, Emily, and Connie for all the lovely comments on the last entry, and also to Rae, Susan and Tarina for their love and support on the phone & online.
Had to work this morning - definitely the busiest day I've ever had at the library. We had the book sale today, which is usually very popular, but today moreso than ever before. We opened both sets of doors at 10am to huge lines of people waiting to come in. And it wasn't just the book sale - the returns were astounding. We were lucky to get everything checked in that quickly. Very tiring, but thankfully I only had to work till 2pm. So I came home, had lunch with Tu Lan and proceeded to spend what was left of the afternoon cleaning the house. Fun fun. I managed to make good use of the pool today as I was constantly overheated from all the running around and cleaning. So glad it's nice and cool tonight.
Just realized I haven't yet mentioned how very much I LOVED Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I've seen it three times so far and I'm definitely going to see it again. I want to see it on an IMAX, but it's only playing in Dublin (California, not Ireland, people. Don't be silly like Susan! ) and no one wants to go that far to see it except me. Sigh sigh. Anyways... about the movie. So very pretty. Alfonso Cuaron did an amazing job. The movie was funny, touching, and beautiful. I loved the feel of it and the kids did a wonderful job - much more natural than the first two, I thought (though don't get wrong - I adore the first two movies). David Thewlis was AWESOME as Lupin. And Gary Oldman was excellent as well - I was worried about that piece of casting, but I was definitely proved wrong. Michael Gambon as Dumbledore was decent. I still love Richard Harris best, but Michael wasn't bad. He just didn't thrill me as much as Gary & David did. The R/Hr moments were classic and wonderfully done. So happy with those.
Anyways... I must get to bed. Early morning tomorrow as I have lots to do so that I can get to the Farmer's Market on time as we're in desparate need of some fruit. I still haven't written an actual review for the Angel finale, but I did type up some notes, which Thomas insists that I post. Susan says I sound insane, but how is that different from any other time? Anyways... enjoy and many thanks again for all the support.
Still loving the end of "Power Play." My boys rock.
"Yeah, we're all one big happy Manson family." (Spike)
Hehehehe. Spike always gets the funny lines.
"Move like this, wouldn't hate having Blue Thunder in our corner." (Gunn)
Blue Thunder? Oh so perfect description for Illyria. That is just calling for an icon.
"And how do you know that, Kreskin?" (Spike)
Had to look up Kreskin. Apparently he's a "psychic" (or is psycho a better word?).
"No rest for the wicked." (Hamilton)
Man, Hamilton is yummy. I love Adam Baldwin. FIREFLY!
"I'm telling you, our fearless leader has fearlessly lost it. There's no part of this that makes any sense. We could be next." (Lorne)
Lorne is such a pessimist these days. Weird. I used to think of him as the optimist. When did that happen?
"The circle does not abide secrets." (Seabassis)
"Which is interesting for a secret society." (Angel)
*Snerk* That is classic.
"Sebassis! Your manservant has become tangled in my bodily fluids again!"
Oh my god... TOO freaking funny. That manservant cracks me up.
"If the next words out of your mouth are 'Kill Spike,' we just might have to kiss."
HA HA HA HA. I've never been a slash fan, but damn, Angel/Spike are so funny, I actually might like those two... the bickering is just wonderful.
"Oh, good. Then you won't mind signing that pesky future away. Through that document, the prophecy can be undone. Your signature there will remove any opportunity that you will ever earn your once-precious humanity. Will you sign it?" (Seabassis)
Okay. Everyone is panicking (okay, maybe not everyone, but I've seen some folks) about this, but as Susan and I discussed after the finale the night it aired, WTF does it matter that he signed it away? That means nothing to TPTB. What matters to them is that he was willing to sign his humanity away to save the world - the thing he desired most. That's a true hero.
"I don't remember what it was like... being human. It was too long ago." (Angel)
Wait... whaaaaaaaa? He was human more recently than Harmony! What about "I Will Remember You"?!?!?! I know no one else remembers it, but Angel does. Seriously. The writers should consult with the fans on these things before putting them into the show.
"You gotta be joking. Why on God's green and verdant Earth would I trust you, huh? Or you, me?" (Lindsey)
I cannot get over Christian Kane's hotness. I know. I am so very shallow. Kill me. Whatever. But daaaaaaamn, that boy is fine. And the voice... so very pretty. Also, he used the word verdant. Who uses the word verdant?
"'Cause it's not about us, Lindsey. It's about them. The wolf. The ram. The hart. The ones we've been fighting against forever." (Angel)
Wolf! Ram! Hart!
"Everybody goes on about your soul. Vampire with a soul. Nobody ever mentions the fact that you're really a vampire with big brass testes. This is gonna be a circus. I mean, win or lose, you're about to pick the nastiest fight since mankind drop-kicked the last demon out of this dimension. And that you don't do without me. If you want me, I'm on your team." (Lindsey)
Did I mention that I *heart* Lindsey?
"I want you, Lindsey... I'm thinking about rephrasing that." (Angel)
"Yeah, I think I'd be more comfortable if you did." (Lindsey)
Catwoman trailer on my tape
WHY WHY WHY WHY?!?!?! So not right.
"I want you all to do something for me, for yourselves. Take the day off." (Angel)
Love this. Last day for them all.
Lorne singing! Lorne singing! I love Andy.
Connor! How weird is that I'm actually thrilled to see Connor again? Isn't it amazing that with just one episode, they washed away all the dislike I had for him last season?
Awwwww... Anne. Such a nice addition. The good old days.
"Still fighting the good fight." (Gunn)
The gang's motto, I think.
"What if I told you it doesn't help? What would you do if you found out that none of it matters? That it's all controlled by forces more powerful and uncaring than we can conceive, and they will never let it get better down here. What would you do?" (Gunn)
"I'd get this truck packed before the new stuff gets here." (Anne)
Epiphany shout-out! I can die happy now. That's all I wanted from this episode (well, not all but you know what I mean).
"You're a very inspirational person. Have I mentioned that?" (Wesley)
Hehehe. Illyria... so very inspirational.
"Then why—" (Illyria)
"Don't I go off and have one last perfect day? Smell the flowers, or sky-dive, or have a go with Mistress Spanks-A-Lot... or whatever the hell one is supposed to do in this situation." (Wesley)
Mistress Spanks-A-Lot. *Snerk* That has to be Joss.
"There is no perfect day for me, Illyria. There is no sunset or painting or finely-aged scotch that's going to sum up my life and make tonight any... There is nothing that I want." (Wesley)
I was completely spoiler free before this episode. Had no idea what was going to happen. But Susan and I had been saying for weeks that it would be Wes who died. This line just confirmed it (though it is a very pretty line).
"I could assume her shape, make her come alive again this once for you. But you would never ask me to." (Illyria)
"The first lesson a watcher learns is to separate truth from illusion. Because in the world of magics, it's the hardest thing to do. The truth is that Fred is gone. To pretend anything else would be a lie. And since I don't actually intend to die tonight, I won't accept a lie." (Wesley)
So so so pretty. I love pretty dialogue. Poor Wes though. I love him so.
"My soul is wrapped in harsh repose,
midnight descends in raven-colored clothes,
A sunlight beam
cutting a swath of glimmering gleam.
My heart expands,
'tis grown a bulge in it,
inspired by your beauty...
*Dies* Not the biggest Spike fan, but goddamn. That was classic. What a perfect scene for Spike. Yay "Fool for Love" reference!
"Thank you. That was for Cecily. All right. This next one's called 'The Wanton Folly of Me Mum.'" (Spike)
"But it's the wolf part that Jones's you. There's some full-moon love, am I right? Fur flying."
Angel/Nina = WRONG. But this line? So funny. Mostly 'cause it makes me think of PuppetAngel fuzz flying.
"So vampires really don't understand the concept of jokes." (Connor)
"I know you're my father." (Connor)
Again with the duh. We saw that look at the end of "Origin."
"No. I don't want to make a thing. I get what you did. You know... I'm grateful. That's as far as I want to take it...OK?" (Connor)
Oh my god. I love Connor. What is wrong with me?
"Have you ever written a resume before? Ever?" (Connor)
"No... but I have very nice handwriting." (Angel)
"You girl." (Connor)
Hehehe. Angel is so totally a girl.
"If this thing does go down, I want you to stay the hell away from it. I'm not gonna let anything happen to you. Damn, girl, you gave up immortality for me. It's like something out of a fairy tale." (Lindsey)
Whatever. Waste of a scene, other than the prettiness of Lindsey. Eve still annoys me. Why the heck is Lindsey with her?
"This may come out a little pretentious, but... one of you will betray me." (Angel)
(Spike raises his hands eagerly)
"Oh. Can I deny you 3 times?" (Spike)
Hands down, the funniest line of the episode. Had me rolling on the floor.
"I'll make trophies of their spines." (Illyria)
"Good to have you on the team." (Angel)
"I was hoping it'd be vamps. I haven't dusted nearly enough this year." (Gunn)
Gunn! Fighting vamps! Yay!
"Right. First off, I'm not wearing any amulets. No bracelets, broaches, beads, pendants, pins, or rings." (Spike)
Seriously. ALL the funniest lines are Spike's. James is just too good at delivering them.
"Uh, I'm not a fighter, Angelwings. I never had the stomach for it. Looks like I'm your weak link." (Lorne)
"I just need you to back up Lindsey." (Angel)
Somebody's in trouble...
"This just gets better and better every day." (Harmony)
So just how long has Harmony been betraying Angel? And while I'm not surprised, I'm very disappointed in Harmony... 'cause I really did like her in "Harm's Way." Ah well. Whatever.
"So I guess we're not going back to the office after this." (Gunn)
"The alley just north of the Hyperion." (Angel)
"Hey, Ange, uh, I'll do this last thing for you, for us... but then I'm out, and you won't find me in the alley afterwards. Hell, you won't find me at all. Do me a favor. Don't try." (Lorne)
Seriously. Lorne is so very depressing now.
"Try not to die. You are not unpleasant to my eyes." (Illyria)
"What do you think all this means for that Shanshu bugaboo? If we make it through this, does one of us get to be a real boy?" (Spike)
"Who you kidding? We're not gonna make it through." (Angel)
"Well, long as it's not you." (Spike)
And to that I say - as long as it's not Spike.
"You betrayed me. You are betraying me now, even as we are talking." (Angel)
"Because you never have any confidence in me." (Harmony)
"No, because you have no soul." (Angel)
"I would if you had confidence in me." (Harmony)
Harmony is so weirdly funny.
"But the fates stepped in and made you a vampire, with a soul, no less. A champion. A hero of the people. And yet, you still managed to fail everyone around you. Doyle. Cordelia. Fred. They're all gone. Now it's time you followed." (Hamilton)
Doyle! Cordelia! Fred! Thank you thank you thank you for mentioning my lovely, long gone characters.
"Did you really think you were gonna kill Archduke Sebassis?" (Hamilton)
"No...I think I already did." (Angel)
Yup yup yup. That's my champion.
"Place the holy vessel back in the bassinet." (Fell Leader)
Randomness, but I love the baby shaking its head... too cute.
"I mean, really. I crap better magic than this. Now then, let me show you what a real wizard can do." (Vail)
Noooooo... I love my Wesley.
"Why do you keep fighting? You signed away your Shanshu. There's nothing in it for you anymore." (Hamilton)
"People who don't care about anything will never understand the people who do." (Angel)
Again! Epiphany! Yay!
That axe in the Senator's head from Gunn was just lovely.
Yay on Illyria for disposing so nicely of her assignments, but I so wanted to see her do it.
"No, I mean me saying "team" and meaning it. I kind of like the feeling." (Lindsey)
Siiiiiigh. Oh Lindsey.
"I've heard you sing." (Lorne)
So how much did Lorne know? Hmmmmm. So many questions.
"One last job. You're not part of the solution, Lindsey. You never will be." (Lorne)
"You kill me? A flunky?! I'm not just... Angel...kills me. You don't... Angel..." (Lindsey)
Poor Lindsey. Was not too shocked at this point. I mean, why else would Lorne be sent along as his backup?
"Good night, folks." (Lorne)
Good night, Lorne. I loved you so. You became rather depressing near the end of this season, but I still love you. I hope you find a place to sing and relax and drink yourself silly with Seabreezes. I'll miss you.
"Then I'll just... have to do this... the old-fashioned way." (Wesley)
"Yes... I suppose we will." (Vail)
(summons a large knife from the wall to him and thrusts it into Wes's stomach)
OH MY GOD I HATE YOU JOSS YOU EVIL FREAKING BASTARD!!!! MY THREE FAVORITE CHARACTERS ALL DEAD IN ONE YEAR!!! ONE YEAR!!! YOU HATE ME, DON'T YOU?!?!??! WHY WHY WHY?????? *Runs away and sobs*
Breathe. Breathe. Must remember to breathe. Okay. So I don't necessarily hate Joss, but goddamnit. It's not freaking fair. Cordy, Fred & Wes. All dead in ONE season. Joss is an evil bastard. "Never go for the kill when you can go for the pain." (D'Hoffryn in Selfless) Must be Joss's motto.
"Would you like me to lie to you now?" (Illyria)
"Yes. Thank you. Yes." (Wesley)
*SOBS* So sad. So pretty, but so sad.
"It's gonna be OK. It won't hurt much longer, and then you'll be where I am. We'll be together." (Fred-Illyria)
"I—I love you." (Wesley)
*SOBS* even more. Did I mention that Wesley is my favorite character?
"How very touching his meaningless death was, but this fight was never for mortals." (Vail)
Okay, now you really do suck, Joss. The dude's not even dead? Damn you. Cool effect for the Fred to Illyria punch, but damn, you suck.
Connor is cool. Connor is cool. Even if Hamilton is still stronger.
"Let me say this as clearly as I can. You cannot beat me. I am a part of them. The Wolf, Ram, and Hart. Their strength flows through my veins. My blood is filled with their ancient power." (Hamilton)
"Can you pick out the one word there you probably shouldn't have said?" (Angel)
Ha ha ha. Dumbass. *Goes back to crying over Wesley*
"You don't really think you're gonna win this, do you? You don't stand a chance. We are legion. We are forever." (Hamilton)
Did this make anyone else think back to Buffy/Willow/Xander/Giles merging in "Primeval"?
Goodbye, Connor. You were so much better for this season that I actually wanted more of you. Whereas last season, I wanted you gone. But now, I actually will miss you.
"Damn! How did I know the fang boys would pull through? You're lucky we're on the same side, dogs, 'cause I was on fire tonight. My game was tight." (Gunn)
I love my old street fighting Gunn. I will miss him so.
"You're supposed to wear the red stuff on the inside, Charlie boy." (Spike)
Heck, I'll even miss Spike.
"Wesley's dead." (Illyria)
*SOBS* But pretty pretty sad look from Angel. Oh god, Joss is evil.
"I wish to do more violence." (Illyria)
See, this is the genius of Joss. I can be in the middle of crying and suddenly bust out laughing at some random line. I did a lot of that during "Chosen" last year. I like Fred better than I like Illyria, but I'll still miss Illyria.
"OK. You take the 30,000 on the left..." (Gunn)
"You're fading. You'll last 10 minutes at best." (Illyria)
"Then let's make 'em memorable." (Gunn)
I love Gunn again.
"In terms of a plan?" (Spike)
"We fight." (Angel)
"Bit more specific." (Spike)
"Well, personally, I kind of want to slay the dragon. Let's go to work." (Angel)
And I'll miss you too, Angel. You weren't always my favorite character, but just like Buffy, you are a true hero. Even if David is a crap actor most of the time. (Sorry, had to get that snark in there).
The end. Loved the end. Loved the end. I know other folks didn't, but I thought it was a fitting end for the show. My heroes went out fighting. What more can I ask for? And as to whether or not they lived, only Joss knows for sure, but I like to think that they did. Maybe not all of them, but I can hope. And yes, I cried. Even watching it a second and third time. I'm a sap, but I love my shows. And while Angel wasn't always consistent, it was still a favorite and I truly enjoyed it this year (despite the EVIL deaths). I miss it already.
Good night, folks.
