the end of all things

Really wish I wasn't working tomorrow. Why? Because I want to go see Return of the King again. It was AMAZING. Beautiful, haunting, frightening, bittersweet, and just one of the most wonderful movies I've ever seen. There aren't enough words in the world to describe it. Sooooo... if you haven't seen it yet (which, btw, means you should go NOW), don't follow the cut.

They kept my ending! They kept my ending! This, to me, was the most wonderful part. Because it's such a perfect ending in the books... the 3 hobbits seeing Frodo, Gandalf and the Elves off, and Sam returning home to the Shire: "Well, I'm back." Just thinking about it makes me cry.

Other things I loved (in completely random order):

Sam. Sean Astin was amazing. Okay, everyone was awesome, but Sean definitely stood out for me.

Eowyn and Merry defeating the Witch King of Angmar. Dude. Freaking AWESOME. So so so happy this was kept. "I am no man."

Super crazy Denethor. Scary dude. Much crazier than I imagined. Loved Faramir though. I wanted to hug him so badly. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the romance of Eowyn/Faramir developed in the Extended Edition, but I can see that it wouldn't have fit into this cut.

Shelob. Eeeeeeee! That was one scary looking spider. Go Weta Digital!

Paths of Dead. Again with the excellent job of scary. Beautifully done.

The usage of both Billy Boyd and Viggo Mortensen in two songs for the movies. Both were beautiful and very fitting.

Aragorn/Arwen. Some people have complained about how the relationship was developed moreso in the three movies than in the books, but I think it works for the movies. You needed the development to explain why Aragorn doesn't return Eowyn's love and the coronation with the arrival of Arwen wouldn't have been that powerful without the development. So whatever to the naysayers.

"That still only counts as one!" Hehehehe. More battle counts make for fun times. I love Gimli and Legolas.

Opening prologue. Hey... how proud am I of myself? I knew they had filmed this scene, but had no idea where it would be used. This morning, as I was trying to figure out what they'd be using to open the movie, I thought to myself "I bet it will be that scene!" So, go me! Andy Serkis kicks ass. 'Nuff said.

My hobbits. I love my hobbits. All four of them - Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin. Merry and Pippin kicked major ass in battle and my boys, Frodo and Sam, kept going until the end. Siiiiiiiiigh. So lovely.

Howard Shore. I love this man. No one else could have created such beautiful and fitting music for these three amazing movies. The movies would not carry as much emotion as they do without Howard's scores.

Peter Jackson. "My precious!" Susan and I are so moving in with PJ. He is a GOD. If he doesn't win Best Director, then it will be certain that the Academy is on crack. And lots of it.

Speaking of that. If this movie doesn't win Best Picture, I will be boycotting the Oscars till the end of my days. Yeah, you heard me! And those of you who know me well, know that the Oscars are big deal in my house. So me boycotting? Serious stuff. I've said it here, and I am sticking to it. So Oscar voters? VOTE FOR RETURN OF THE KING!!!!

Ahem. So, that's it from me peoples. I know there's more to say about this gorgeous movie, but my head is so full of thoughts that I can't sort through all of them, and it will have to wait till later. I'll be seeing RotK again on Sunday, so I'm sure there will be more after that. For now, I need to sleep and dream of hobbits, elves, wizards, men, ents, oliphaunts, and maybe even a few orcs.

return of the blog

Life has been odd since I last blogged. Not horrible or anything, just odd. Last week at work was spent packing and sitting around. It was extremely weird having no customers and having periods with nothing to do. We completely ran out of things to work on mid-way through Wednesday and all had to sit around till 6pm, waiting for Ralph and Doug to arrive for our staff party. But the staff party was a blast. Just rather sad at the end, having to say goodbye to everyone who wasn't going to be at work Thursday and Friday.

My cousin Adrien had her baby last week - a boy named Charles. She sent pictures along and he is absolutely adorable. I still can't get over the shock though - Adrien is only 6 months older than me. But hey... first great-grandchild of the family. Pretty amazing!

Spent Saturday hanging with Lucy, then Sunday was "Two Towers: EE" at the theater. Cannot WAIT for Wednesday. ROTK!! hyper Speaking of which, have to share today's Fox Trot. Too funny and absolutely appropriate (especially after the screaming Orli fangirls at the theater where I saw TT last year).

Funny stuff. laugh

Alright, folks. I can't ramble anymore... must read a bit before crashing. I shall return on Wednesday to blog about RotK! Wheeeeee!

cannot cope. off to mordor.

I'm so out of it tonight... I know I had something I wanted to blog about, but it's long gone. Ah well. Can't have been that exciting, right?

Ummmm... hey... what to blog about? Work, nah. I blog about work too much. Plus it's not very exciting. It's the last week and it's packing, packing, packing. That's about it.

Watched my brand new "Pirates of the Caribbean" DVD last night. I love Johnny Depp in that movie. He is so freaking awesome. Sigh sigh. Also bought Alias Season 2 on Tuesday, but haven't yet had a chance to watch anything other than the Blooper Reel (SO funny) and Deleted Scenes.

Dying to get my BtVS Season 5 and Firefly DVDs next Tuesday. Especially Firefly because I can't wait to see the 3 unaired episodes. Yay! But, aaaaaaaah... so much money to spend. I'm very very bad. I just can't resist.

Okay... CSI is over... must go watch LotR special on Primetime... but before I go, an old Friday Five (no new one this week). Toodles!

1. If you were to go to a movie this weekend, which one would you pick?
Well, I already have tickets to see "The Fellowship of the Ring: Extended Edition" in theaters, so I'm picking that. wink

2. What movie would you like to rent this weekend?
I want to see "Bruce Almighty" sometime. Might rent that.

3. What one TV show do you always try to watch?
Since Buffy's gone, Alias and CSI are the "can't miss" shows for me.

4. If you (and your S.O.) were cool with it, what five celebrities (at the most) would it be 'ok' for you to have a fling with?
Ewan McGregor, Colin Farrell, Brad Pitt, Elijah Wood

5. How do you plan to spend your weekend?
Saturday is Mom's birthday, so I'll be spending the day with her and Dad. Might stop by Rosegarden if I have a chance 'cause it's the last day open and there's going to be a party, etc. Also, old employees were invited to show up, so I'm hoping Allison, Eric and Lizandro will show up. I miss them! Sunday is Fellowship day! Woot woot.

EDITED TO SAY: I already told him, but I have to say it here too:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, THOMAS!! birthday
